The Listening (AKA formerly known as "Rock N Roll Worship Circus") have just released an obscure Star Trek-inspired band update to fans that likens their musical journey to that of an intergalactic one. Most intriguingly, of course, is the promise revealed within its cryptic tale of three new songs soon to be released. Read on...
"Captain's log - October 1st, 2008It has been several months since my crew and I have seen daylight, even longer since we set sail into the unknown depths beyond our intuitive limits. Buried under mounds of archived audio files, barely able to move due to countless magnetic strips of sound filling the corridors of our vessel. Beaming waves from one motherboard to the next, editing wavelengths, altering formats, composing their entities from the very energy that molds the universe. Compiling every signal, message, codex, tick, and hum into translated form. But we have nearly completed our mission. A dangerous, daunting task. Some have not made it alive. I regret in the darkest moments of our journey, we lost some beloved members of the crew, suffocated by the work load of the vessel and the errors of our own humanity. In space the human condition is easily altered by a darker reasoning. Alas, they are gone. Yet the universe is governed by a Love with infinite wisdom, more just and pure than any of us. And it is this force which has replenished our vessel with more life and man power than all of us who remained could ever have hoped for. Yes, we continue on, deeper into the unknown; a journey so terrifying and exciting only Providence Himself could be responsible for its frequency and propulsion.
We surely will soon see daylight. And this is more than hope and prayer. For we of The Listening have only finished a portion of our journey. We are not at its end--rather we are in its center. The antenna are up. Lo-fi transmissions will be broadcast in short bursts so that the current processing rate of computation will not be breached. Visual communications will gain in frequency as images are collected and decoded, with visual transmissions broadcasting during all live operations. Most importantly, we'll be digitally distributing three advanced songs via our internet station (www.thelistening.com) and via compact disc in every city we touch down in. We will be landing in select cities this autumn doing live transmissions in an effort to intersect and reconnect with our beloved friends, families, and fans from around the globe. Yes, it has been too long since we have landed... Our eyes and minds are starved for the familiar, our souls restless to see Love made manifest within sound and light, thought and speech.
Soon we shall touch the ground, and when we do, all will not have been forgotten or in vain. Few have been so close to the light and the darkness both and lived to tell about it. Our stories are not fables, rather they are the core of our being. We have seen the truth of a Love that exists outside of our current time and space, yet still colors within our lines. We have seen this light color the blackest hole, fill the deepest vacuum, whisper in the deafest ear, and open the blindest eye. And it is for this reason that we have continued on this journey...
We're almost home.
transmission complete."
